Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?

A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.

Title: Red Shrimp Plant Poisonous for Dogs?
Answered by: Anne Van Nest

QUESTION:

Is the Red Shrimp Plant poison to dogs?

ANSWER:

Red shrimp plant, Justica brandegeana is not a native plant, so Mr. Smarty Plants is less of an expert on this plant. But we can direct you to the Toxic and Non-toxic Plants list that has been created by the ASPCA. It doesn't list the shrimp plant as one that is toxic (or non-toxic) to dogs. But if you suspect that your dog is having an adverse effect from eating this plant, please seek advice from a veterinarian.
