Q. Who is Mr. Smarty Plants?
A: There are those who suspect Wildflower Center volunteers are the culpable and capable culprits. Yet, others think staff members play some, albeit small, role. You can torture us with your plant questions, but we will never reveal the Green Guru's secret identity.
Did you know you can access the Native Plant Information Network with your web-enabled smartphone?
Ask Mr. Smarty Plants is a free service provided by the staff and volunteers at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.

Title: Propagating sundrop plants in Dallas
Answered by: Barbara Medford
QUESTION:
How do I propagate sundrop plants?ANSWER:
There are eleven species of the genus Calylophus native to Texas, all with "sundrop" as one of the common names. Our webpage on Calylophus berlandieri (Berlandier's sundrops) has this advice on propagation:
"Propagation by seed is most successful if sown in fall. Take cuttings on new growth in early spring, sometimes in January."
From our webpage on Calylophus serrulatus (yellow sundrops):
"Cuttings taken in early summer will root. Stratified seed germinates adequately.
Seed Collection: Seed is difficult to collect."
