Original Format: Digital Orientation: Landscape Shot: Comparison of the "pitchers" of Sarracenia ×gilpinii and its parent species. "Pitcher" on right, along with Sarracenia ×gilpinii in the center and Sarracenia rubra on the left for comparison. Photographer's Note: "According to "Sarraceniaceae of North America", McPherson and Schnell, the name Sarracenia ×gilpinii was given to the hybrid between the red and parrot pitcher plants in 1956. I understand the hybrid can be frequent in a couple of Georgia swamps. At this swamp, I only located one, despite lots of searching. I just didn't locate the main population in this swamp. It is a difficult place traverse. Several times I found my self waist to chest deep in peat muck. I had my kayak with me but there was not enough water to float it. There was plenty of what I call "stinging muck" There must be some type of stinging polyp living in it. It is quite annoying." Date Taken: 2012-05-19 NPIN Image Id: 42791
