Abstract
Examines pollen loads in tristylous populations of Pontederia cordata to test Darwin's hypothesis that floral trimorphism promotes pollination. Results indicate that the long-styled morph experiences legitimate pollination while the other two morphs display random pollination. However, in one population, all three morphs exhibited legitimate pollination. The results are discussed from an evolutionary perspective.Suggested Citation
