Abstract

Investigates the effects of planting Andropogon virginicus and Liquidambar styraciflua on the growth of Pinus taeda (loblolly pine) via water availability. Both A. virginicus and L. styraciflua decreased water availability deeper in the soil. However, water availability on the soil surface was either unchanged our increased in the presence of both or one of the species. Water stress explained more than half of the variation in P. taeda size after one growing season.
