"Unlike some of its more brightly colored relatives, Carolina Milkweed's flowers are more or less grayish with touches of lavender and white. The inflorescence consists of 1 to several loosely flowered umbels, each of which has 3-10, 3/8 to 1/2 inch flowers on long, drooping stalks. The stems are thin and erect but typically droop at the tip under the weight of the infloresecence. The 2-4 inch leaves are opposite and narrowly linear in outline. The fruit is a narrow 4 inch follicle." (Bibref 1610)
