Crepis acuminata
Crepis acuminata Nutt.
Tapertip Hawksbeard, Hawksbeard
Asteraceae (Aster Family)
Synonym(s):
USDA Symbol: CRAC2
USDA Native Status: L48 (N)
A loose, flattish or round-topped cluster of many narrow flower heads of yellow rays atop a branched leafy stem; sap milky.
Crepis is Greek for "sandal"; the reason for its application to this genus is apparently lost in history. Crepis species have races that reproduce asexually, adding to the variation within the genus and making identification sometimes difficult.
